AI Search Optimization Consultant: What It Is and Who It Helps
AI search optimization is the work of making your brand easy for AI assistants and AI search features to find, understand and cite accurately. Zabi Niazi is a Bay Area AI search optimization consultant who combines technical SEO, structured data, answer-first content and third-party mentions, then tests the results in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google.
This page answers the questions I hear most: what AI search optimization is, how it differs from SEO, GEO and AEO, what is documented and what is guesswork, what it costs and how to measure it.
I live in Union City and work with B2B software and technology teams around the Bay Area, in person or remotely.
AI Search Optimization vs SEO vs GEO vs AEO
The labels overlap. This is how I use them.
| AI search optimization | Traditional SEO | GEO | AEO | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Goal | Be found and described correctly across AI assistants and AI search | Rank pages in search results | Be mentioned in AI-written answers | Be the direct answer in snippets and assistants |
| Where it shows | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI features | Google and Bing results pages | Generated answers | Featured snippets, voice and AI answers |
| Main work | Eligibility, entities, content, mentions, monitoring | Technical fixes, content, links | Entities, citations, topical depth | Answer-first writing and matching markup |
| How it is measured | Mentions, accuracy, referrals, leads | Rankings, traffic, leads | Mention rate and accuracy | Snippet and answer wins |
Facts First, Guesses Labeled
Google Says SEO Basics Still Apply
Google’s documentation for AI Overviews and AI Mode says the usual SEO fundamentals apply and that no special markup or extra files are needed to appear. Pages must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet. That is the baseline I check first.
Crawler Access Is Yours to Control
OpenAI, Perplexity and Google publish their crawler names and say they respect robots.txt. Blocking them by accident, often through a plugin default, can remove you from some answers. Allowing or blocking them is a business decision.
Consistent Mentions Help
Assistants tend to repeat what several credible sources say about a company. Matching descriptions on your site, LinkedIn and trusted publications make accurate mentions more likely. No platform publishes this as a rule, but it fits how these systems work.
Be Skeptical of Tricks
No major platform has confirmed that an llms.txt file changes citations, and nobody can buy a guaranteed ChatGPT answer. I test claims before I recommend them and say so when something is a guess.
Measurement Is Messy
AI answers vary by prompt, user and day. I run a fixed set of buyer questions on a schedule and track mentions, accuracy and referral visits over time. The numbers are directional, not exact.

How AI Search Optimization Consultant Pricing Works
Most of the work is testing, fixing and monitoring, so I price by scope.
AI Search Review
A one-time baseline with a written plan. Good when you want to know where you stand.
Monthly Program
Fixes, content guidance and monthly tracking for a monthly fee. Good when you want an owner for AI visibility.
Project
A defined piece of work such as a crawler and schema cleanup or a brand fact correction.
Fees depend on how many products and markets you want tested, how much content needs work and how much monitoring you want. I put the fee in writing first. Be wary of anyone who sells guaranteed citations.
Results Behind My AI Search Optimization Consultant Work
Measured outcomes from my case studies.
TimeZ Marketing: 40% More Featured Snippets

What I did. I rewrote priority pages answer-first, added matching schema and tested the results with structured A/B tests.

Qualys: Schema Markup Lifted Lead-to-Opportunity 31%
Challenge. The team needed more opportunities from existing demand.
What I did. I mapped the customer journey and added schema markup for AEO on key pages, then tracked opportunities in the CRM.

Industries I Work In
B2B SaaS
Buyers ask assistants to shortlist vendors before they visit a website.
Cybersecurity
Trust matters most, and wrong answers about a product do real damage.
Enterprise Technology
Many stakeholders research the same purchase with different questions.
Professional Services
Referral-style searches such as who is the best consultant for X are increasingly asked of assistants.
Where I Deliver AI Search Optimization Consultant: Cities I Serve
AI assistants answer local-flavored questions too. Here is how that shapes the work.
San Francisco
Many AI-native and SaaS companies compete here for the same buyer questions. I focus on narrow, specific topics where an accurate, well-sourced page can still be the answer.
San Jose
Enterprise buyers in San Jose often use assistants to build a shortlist before procurement starts. Clear comparison pages and consistent facts matter more than volume.
Palo Alto
Founders and investors in Palo Alto research companies with assistants. I check how your company is described, because one wrong funding or product fact repeats quickly.
Mountain View
Teams in Mountain View live close to the platforms. They also get asked sharper questions, so I keep documentation, claims and sources precise.
Sunnyvale
Cloud and networking buyers in Sunnyvale ask technical questions. Documentation-style pages and specific, checkable facts get quoted more reliably.

AI Search Optimization Consultant FAQ: Questions Buyers Ask
How much does AI search optimization consultant cost?
Pricing depends on scope. Most engagements start with a free AI search review, then a paid baseline and a monthly program or a defined project. I put the fee in writing before work starts, and I do not sell guaranteed citations.
What is AI search optimization?
It is the work of making your brand easy for AI assistants and AI search features to find, understand and cite accurately. It builds on SEO and adds entity clarity, answer-first content, third-party mentions and monitoring.
Is AI search optimization different from SEO?
Mostly it builds on SEO. Google says the same fundamentals apply to its AI features. The new parts are checking crawler access, brand consistency across sources, and testing how assistants describe you.
What is the difference between GEO, AEO and AI search optimization?
GEO focuses on being mentioned in AI-written answers, AEO on being the direct answer in snippets and assistants, and AI search optimization is the umbrella that covers both plus technical eligibility and measurement.
How do ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini choose sources?
They combine search results with their own training and retrieval systems, and they differ from each other. None publishes a full recipe. In practice, pages that are indexed, clear, credible and backed by other sources get cited more often.
Do I need an llms.txt file?
It is optional. No major platform has confirmed it changes citations, so I treat it as low-cost housekeeping, not a strategy.
Does schema markup help AI search?
It helps search engines understand your content, and accurate structured data supports entity clarity. Google says it is not required to appear in AI features, so I use it where it fits the page, not as a trick.
Should I allow GPTBot and other AI crawlers?
It depends on your goals. If you want to be found in those tools, allow the search crawlers. If you need to protect content, block selectively. I walk through the trade-offs with you.
Can I pay to be recommended by ChatGPT?
Not in the sense of buying an organic answer. Beware of anyone selling guaranteed placement. You can earn mentions by being the clear, credible source.
How do I track whether assistants mention my brand?
Use a fixed list of buyer questions, run them on a schedule across tools, and log mentions, accuracy and sources. Add AI referral traffic in GA4 and branded search trends for context.
What if an assistant says something wrong about my company?
First fix the sources it relies on: your site, profiles and major listings. Then report the error through the tool’s feedback options where available and recheck over the following weeks.
How long does it take?
Technical and content fixes can show effects within weeks, but AI answers change often, so I judge progress over a few months of repeated tests.
Will AI Overviews and AI Mode reduce my organic traffic?
They reduce clicks on some informational searches. Brands cited in the answer gain visibility, and commercial searches still send clicks. I watch both in Search Console and GA4.
Do Reddit, reviews and other third-party sites matter?
They can, because assistants often draw on several sources. I treat them as signals worth monitoring and earning honestly, not as something to game.
Is traditional SEO dead?
No. Indexed, fast, well-structured pages still feed both search results and AI answers.
What should I measure?
Mentions and accuracy across a fixed question set, referral visits from assistants, branded search, and leads that mention an assistant.
Do you work with small companies?
Yes. A small company with a clear niche can do well, because specific, accurate pages are easier to cite.
What do you need to get started?
Search Console and GA4 access, your CMS login or a developer contact, and a list of the questions your best customers ask before they buy.
